London 2012: An Olympics for the young people of the world?

Watched Britain's Got Talent earlier and visualised this group of dancers from Essex, 'Diversity', performing at the London 2012 opening ceremony. One of the reasons London won the Olympic bid was owing to the focus on young people, from around the world being inspired by Olympic sport to do sport and the positive effect that this would have on peoples’ futures around the globe. Lord Coe said that the purpose of the Games is to “inspire young people” and that “London’s multi-cultural mix of 200 nations represent the youth of the world”. I just thought that this group of dancers could help spread this message...

Do you think that the games will provide a lasting legacy of stadia that young people will aspire to perform in? Thinking about this message, what do you think could feature at the London 2012 opening ceremony?

On a slightly different note, I have that annoying song in my head from 'DJ Talent'. 'I say talent, Britain's got talent'. Grrr ;)

Year 9 are currently learning about London 2012 and the Olympic games. In the news yesterday, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) were said to be very pleased with the progress of the new stadium. Here are some great aerial pictures that show the changing skyline of the Olympic park.

TV: Charting the journey to London 2012

There is a three-part observational documentary series charting the journey to the London 2012 Olympics. The first programme was last Thursday and followed the exploits of the Ceremonies Team as they prepare to mount the eight-minute show to mark the official handover of responsibility for the Olympic Games from Beijing to London. You can catch the episode on iplayer.


The next episode on Thursday 11th at 9pm is The Last Stand at Stratford. This will focus upon winners and losers, as the authorities encounter resistance to their plans for the Olympic park in East London.

Can the London 2012 games be sustainable?

Year 9 will soon be investigating the exciting event of London 2012! This involves learning about ‘personal geographies'...how do you regard the Olympics in relation to your own sporting activities and the spaces you frequent for exercise and sport?

This unit also involves learning about the role of the Games in selling London the place as a ‘World City’. You will also begin to investigate the social, economic and environmental regeneration at a local, regional and national scale. Here is the first of a series of short clips showing the impact of Olympic decision-making on a small business located on the Isle of Portland in South West England, where the sailing events are going to be held.
