Click here for a link to some historic pictures of Seaford that you may want to use in your Controlled Assessment.

Using Google Earth for Controlled Assessment- please bring your maps at different scales on a memory stick to the lessons. This will save you time in the lesson. Include Friars Bay in Newhaven, Seaford Head in Seaford and Birling Gap in East Dean.

Year 11: DME podcast download available!

Those of you resitting the DME could download this podcast from Mark Howell who is a Geography teacher in Northampton. As well as discussing and explaining the resources in the booklet, Mark also talks about the sorts of questions that you can expect for each of the resources.

Wind Farms: Generating power and jobs?

A useful BBC News article here for Year 11 to be reading about wind farms. Prime Minister Gordon Brown is launching a £100bn programme to build thousands of offshore wind farms.

Year 11- Decision Making Exercise

The Decision Making Exercise (DME) exam will be on the morning of Friday 29th January and will last for 1 hour 45 minutes.

The Issue: The Energy Gap: Is the answer blowing in the wind?

Here is a copy of the pre-release resource booklet that you have in the exam and we will be using this every lesson to become familiar with the materials.

Year 11!

Bringing this one back to the top for you- A list of case studies that you will have studied in class- for your revision. Remember- What? Where? When? Why? Who? There will be others that you may well have collected in your portfolios and be able to apply to the different topics.

It was lovely to see you all yesterday and great to see that you all demolished your creme eggs within seconds! Many thanks for the photo and frame...it is a lovely reminder of you all and it has taken pride of place! I will try to make it in for results day too. Good Luck for Monday Year 11!!!

I have marked all of your coursework now. The grades won't be with you just yet because they have to be moderated, but i am hugely proud of you all and your efforts. Although, I was sitting at home chuckling away to myself about the fact that Jonny had written Ebinezer Scrooge as one of the participants for his questionnaire, and yes, i noticed. Very subtle!



Thinking of you all lots and missing you! Massive luck to you all for the DME on Monday!!!! I have faith in all of you and wish you every success!!

Happy New Year!!

Here is a PowerPoint with a task booklet on that you can download- to help prepare you for your DME on Monday 26th January. You will only have 3 weeks of teaching time now to prepare you for this exam. You will be completing activities alongside the resource booklet (from the exam board) in the lesson, but it would be a good idea for you to download a copy of this. There are many useful activities and links that you can look at from this PowerPoint. Take care all of you and hopefully see you as soon as possible!! Good luck for the DME!

Year 11 Coursework deadlines!

I have marked first drafts of coursework from everyone, well done. Some of you have parts missing and you must ensure that you are up to date by next Thursday. This will include ensuring you make the changes i have advised.

Homework from today: Ensure you have the results from at least 10 questionnaires and that you have referred to them in your methodology. Complete your analysis- i will be taking all of this in next Thursday to mark.

The deadline for your final draft coursework is Monday 1st December, so keep up to date and you will all be fine.

Year 11 homework. All skills work due Thurs 16th!!

Ensure you are up to date with all coursework so far:

-Complete set of field notes for each site.
-3 field sketches (Friars Bay, Harbour Arm and Splash Point). Clearly annotated, title etc.
-Sketch map of the four sites and tracing overlay (Titles, Frame, North Arrow, Not to scale, key).
-Introduction that includes two maps of the area, at different scales (e.g. map of UK that highlights the area and local map of the four sites). Many of you have already used google earth for this, great! (see post further down on how to do this).
-Wind Rose, Beach Profiles and Dispersion graph to show pebble size.
-Methodology. (Remember: Not the questionnaires or secondary data yet!)

Ensure you include titles for maps, photos and images.

Coursework support sessions Tues after school 3:30pm (tomorrow!)/Thursday lunch time 1:30-2:00. Feel free to get your lunch and drop in after.

I was really impressed with your efforts with coursework today... well done for using google earth tools as well, you made my day! ;) Keep this up and you will be just fine!

HW:
1. Ensure you are up to date (Introduction, 3 field sketches and a full set of notes for each of the 3 sites).
2. Complete sketch maps/tracing overlay of the Newhaven to Seaford 'Coastal system'.
3. Complete Wind Rose and Beach Profiles.

Year 7 Competition!!!

Hello Year 7!!!

Firstly, a huge welcome from the Geography department :) We hope that you are excited about your time at Seaford Head Community College. We also hope that you will enjoy your geography lessons as much as we enjoy teaching them!

As you know, your first topic is 'This is Geography' and we hope that you can get a feel for what is the most important subject in the school ;) You will be doing some work on the importance of geography and will have the chance to enter the competition! We want you to tell us what you think about why geography is so important
